The fourth season of the UEFA Nations League football tournament is set to begin on Thursday, September 5, with an exciting match between Azerbaijan and Sweden in League C. Football fans in India can catch this game live at 9:30 PM IST.

On the same day, two of the tournament's top teams will also be in action. Defending champions Spain, who recently triumphed in the UEFA EURO 2024, and Portugal, winners of the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League, will face Serbia and Croatia, respectively. Additionally, France, the 2020-21 champions, will go up against Italy on September 6.

This year's UEFA Nations League features 54 teams divided into four leagues based on their international rankings. Leagues A, B, and C each consist of four groups of four teams, while League D has two groups with three teams each.

In the league phase, every team will play two matches against each other team in their group, once at home and once away.

The top teams from League A will compete for the UEFA Nations League Final, which is scheduled to take place in June 2025. The winners and runners-up from each group in League A will advance to a double-legged quarterfinal, with the victorious teams moving on to the semifinals.

Teams in Leagues B, C, and D will battle to either advance to a higher league or avoid relegation to a lower one.

Cristiano Ronaldo will lead Portugal in Group A1, where they will face Croatia, Scotland, and Poland. France, who had a disappointing EURO 2024, are in Group A2 with Italy, Belgium, and Israel. Hosts Germany, beginning a new chapter after Toni Kroos’s retirement, are in Group A3 with the Netherlands, Hungary, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Spain, having just won the UEFA Nations League in 2023 by defeating Croatia in a penalty shootout, are in a group with Serbia, Denmark, and Switzerland.
